Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a partner? Not necessary at all. You will dance with the instructor on your private lessons. We rotate frequently in all of our group classes, and there are lots of partners to dance with at our social outings.
Do I need experience? No, we can teach you right from the beginning.
What do I wear? Anything you are comfortable in, casual attire is best.
Should I purchase dance shoes? It is preferable but not necessary. If you choose not to purchase dance shoes, shoes are best with leather soles and straps. Please no sneakers or flip flops.
How many lessons will it take to learn? It depends on your goal.
What dances should I learn? If you do not have a dance in mind, we recommend you look at the type of music you listen to. If you are a fan of top 40, classic rock or blues, West Coast Swing is the best. If you like Country music, look at Two Step. If you like Latin music, then Salsa is your thing! If you are a fan of Frank Sinatra, then Foxtrot, Lindy and East Coast Swing are your dances.
I've been watching Dancing with the Stars. How long do I need to be as good as the celebrities? Remember, the celebrities practice 8 hours a day with their professional partner. But don't get discouraged just yet! The celebrities are learning to perform a routine for TV, not how to truly dance. We teach you how to lead or follow and give you the tools to be able to move on any floor with comfort and ease.
Do I need group or private lessons? We recommend a combination of both. In group lessons, you will learn the steps and dance them with different people. In private lessons, you will learn the details needed to dance those steps with people outside of class. Lead/follow, styling, arms, technique, and floor craft are some of the things we cover to help you look your best when you step on the dance floor.
